The Uxbridge Hospital Auxiliary – UHA, was a proud member of the HAAO – the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario which was founded in 1910
UHA is a volunteer non-profit organization which supports the Uxbridge site of Oak Valley Health.
Auxiliary History
In 1954 a group of nurses living in Uxbridge formed an Auxiliary with the goal of building a community hospital. Five years later with the financial support from many other community groups, the Auxiliary’s objective was fulfilled when The Uxbridge Cottage Hospital was officially opened on January 12, 1959. To date the Auxiliary has donated over $3 million to the Hospital and Foundation.
Since that time, the Auxiliary has maintained an active membership and presently has over 250 dedicated volunteers whose talents and efforts are focused in two directions: PATIENT SERVICES AND FUNDRAISING. The Auxiliary was registered as a not-for-profit corporation in January 2024.
The Uxbridge Hospital Auxiliary Fundraising committee strives to achieve new and innovative projects to raise monies, with the help of our many volunteers, to maintain and purchase new equipment for our hospital. We have pledged more than $250,000.00 annually to the Foundation.
All monies after normal operating expenses are to be transferred to the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation for the purchase of equipment etc., as per our current constitution. In the spring the Foundation receives a “wish list” from the Hospital indicating what equipment needs replacing, new updated items, and major repairs needed to keep the Hospital running according to Standards.
The Uxbridge Hospital Foundation encourages support from its community and provides funding to the Oak Valley Health Uxbridge Site for needed equipment and renovations.
Additional funds are designated to volunteer education and scholarships.
High School Bursaries:
Elizabeth Knight Bursary – $1000 to an Uxbridge High School student continuing his/her education in the healthcare field at a Canadian College or University.
Audrey C. Lemmon Memorial Award – $1000 to an Uxbridge High School music student continuing his/her education in a healthcare field at a Canadian College or University.
Shirley Vance Memorial Award – $1000 to an Uxbridge High School student who exhibits outstanding community volunteerism.
