New medical office building at Uxbridge site

Today, October 24, 2019 we celebrated another important milestone for the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital (UCH). I was joined by Dr. Jennifer Wilson, family and emergency physician at the Uxbridge site and Mayor Dave Barton, of the Township of Uxbridge at a special staff town hall, to announce the construction of a medical office building on the grounds of the UCH.

Owned and operated by a group of family physicians, the Uxbridge Health Centre will serve over 30,000 patients a year in a state-of-the-art medical office building. The building will house an on-site laboratory, diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy, dentistry, pharmacy and select ambulatory services that will be relocated from the hospital. A café and a communal lobby for staff and patients to enjoy are also planned for the facility.

The development of a medical office building on site at UCH is consistent with our vision to build a healthcare hub on the site, ensuring better access to healthcare services for patients and their families in Uxbridge and the surrounding area.

Today’s announcement is the third important announcement that I have had the privilege to be a part of this year. In April, MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy announced $1M in infrastructure funding to upgrade the existing hospital and then last month we were delighted to have the Minister of Health and Deputy Premier, Christine Elliott, Peter Bethlenfalvy and Mayor Barton on hand to announce a capital funding grant allowing us to continue our planning for the future of the UCH.

This is a very exciting news for UCH and for the community. It re-affirms our commitment to continuing the tradition of providing high quality care that has been firmly established by UCH staff, physicians and volunteers.
